‘Competing for the Coiffure Award says something about your mindset as a hair salon’

Hair salon Create Hair & Beauty is turning heads as a top international salon.
For many years, this Geldrop hair salon has either won 1st or 2nd place at the Coiffure Award: a hair fashion photography competition for hairdressers in the Netherlands. Competing for this prestigious award is not something you just do on the side. As a thriving salon, why the need to compete every year? René: “This Award is more than just a competition. It’s part of our personality and the way we attract and retain talented hairdressers.”

Hairdressers as friends
René: “We want our salon to feel like going to a friend’s. This is only possible if everything in your salon is just right. If the decor is contemporary and attractive and you work with professionals who are comfortable in their own skin. The Coiffure Award helps us greatly with that.”
At this salon, the Coiffure Award is seen as a form of team building as well as the foundation of the salon’s identity. René: “This Award ensures that we can express our creativity and continue to get others inspiration. Partly because of this, we are constantly developing and this is reflected in our appearance, marketing and service.”
Marge: “We dare to innovate with our team and in the process, we also give the stage to our talented young hairdressers. This year, for instance, even our youngest hairdresser, Kim (19), has been nominated. “Everything just runs so well here,” is what we often hear back from customers. This is partly because of the team building that this award requires of us. It’s the biggest compliment we can get.”
The team is busy all year round with this award. From brainstorming concepts, to creating and submitting them. And closing with the annual gala. Marge: “It’s a series of experiences. In the process, we want to pass on our knowledge to the next generation of hairdressers and help them shine.”
René: “We are frontrunners and are not only committed to promoting hairdressing, but also to innovating the profession. That also means working with sustainable products and shaping sustainable waste management, such as the refill bar for Authentic Beauty products in our salon. This also includes offering flexible working hours and setting up a ‘hair spa’ for some extra me-time for clients. Fortunately, in addition to a young team, we also have Charlotte who keeps us on our toes with what’s going on in the world.”
The Originals
Charlotte very respectfully calls the salon’s older crew ‘The Originals’. According to her: “It’s cool that the experience of the old crew comes together so nicely here with the ideas and world view of the new generation.” René concludes: “It’s actually the young generation that makes sure we don’t have blind spots in our business. By always looking to the future, we can give the team the best work environment and ultimately the customers the best experience.”
